The Columbus Branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society USA

The Columbus branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA was
founded in January 1996 by a member of the Toledo branch who relocated here. We have met
regularly in a variety of locations since then.
As funds and instructor availability permit, we continue to expand the number of locations
and communities in the Columbus area where we provide classes.
The Blendon Township and Westerville Senior Centers, the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus,
the Grady Life Center (Grady Hospital) in Delaware, the Shawnee Hills Civic Association building,
the Reynoldsburg Senior Center and the Wedgewood Urgent Care Facility are among the
locations we have classes. In addition, in February 2006, we leased space for our own Center
at 43 E. Home St. in Westerville.
We currently have approximately 120 active members in the Branch. Our "family style"
atmosphere includes several social events such as the Dragon Boat Festival, the Autumn Moon Festival,
a Holiday open house and Chinese New Year celebrations.
We also enjoy working together on projects to "help others".
Individuals from the public are welcome to attend, watch and participate at many
Introductory and Beginning Classes we schedule throughout the year
(see our Class Schedule listed separately at this web site).
Usually, the first class includes a demonstration, discussion, and
Q & A session about the Taoist Tai Chi Societies® internal arts and methods.
We welcome contact from groups interested in arranging for a demonstration and
discussion of Taoist Tai Chi™ internal arts and methods. Call us at (614) 891-5425
for more information or check out the links on the left of the page.
Approach to Instruction

We offer three levels of instruction in the Taoist Tai Chi Societie® internal art of taijiquan.
Our Introductory classes, consisting of instruction in the first 17 moves of the 108 move set,
are for those wanting to try taijiquan to determine their interest in pursuing the art further.
The Beginners class offers basic instruction in the full set and our Continuing classes provide
ongoing instruction and practice in refining the moves. In addition, guest instructors from
our Canadian and USA National organizations provide us with one-day Intensives and two-day
workshops aimed at advancing understanding of the Society and Taoist Arts.
Other Taoist Arts regularly practiced at our Center in Westerville include Taoist Tai Chi Society® internal arts of Lok Hup Ba Fa, taijidao (Saber)
taijijian (Sword) and xingyiquan (Hsing-I). We do not yet provide instruction in these arts but our class schedule shows
when practices are scheduled.
Trained Volunteer Instructors

In keeping with the aims of the Society, all instructors
are volunteers. An accredited Taoist Tai Chi Society® instructor must meet the standards set
by Master Moy Lin-Shin, the Society's founder, and continually upgrade his or her
knowledge through attendance at regular classes and workshops. For the student,
being taught by a volunteer instructor means receiving attention that is motivated by
enthusiasm and belief in the benefits of the art.
One of the primary functions of our Intensives and workshops is to ensure that the
same quality and consistency of instruction is available at all locations. Members
enjoy the fact that they can visit or transfer to any Taoist Tai Chi Society® Branch and
find the same form and manner of instruction as well as the same friendly atmosphere
and charitable orientation.
